DATABRICKS ACQUIRES BLADEBRIDGE

On Feb. 4th Databricks announced it was welcoming the team and tech behind AI-powered EDW migration solutions. While it might seem like a natural step to streamline the migration and transition to the Databricks Intelligence Platform, it's worth noting that just two weeks ago Snowflake announced its own code conversion (free) tool, SnowConvert. While the timing might be a coincidence, it's worth wondering if we're at the outset of a migration war. What are your thoughts?

It comes as no news that Chineese company DeepSeek stirred up the AI waters (and the US stock market) last week by demonstrating high-performance capabilities at a fraction of traditional costs. **What's Databricks' take?** Speaking to the BBC, co-founder and executive chair Ion Stoica offered an optimistic perspective:
"the lower cost of DeepSeek could spur more companies to adopt AI in their business (...) If that happens, this reduction in cost can accelerate the progress of AI (...) So overall, the market will expand faster, and the value of the market will grow faster."
There it is, no need to panic (😅) Plus, you can now download and run the DeepSeek-R1 and its distilled Llama models on Databricks Mosaic AI.
